How To Back Carry

From 6 months old, when babies typically have the trunk and neck strength to protect their airways, it’s possible to carry them on your back.

This lets them look out at the world over your shoulder, and see what you are seeing, and can be a fantastic way to involve them in your activities.

It also allows you to carry their weight down through the core of your back, and free up your front so you can get on with doing things, making it more comfortable and convenient as they get bigger

All that sounds great, but the act of getting them up on your back itself can feel like trying to do gymnastics.

If you would like to carry your child on your back, but are finding the actual getting them up there a boundary or would like to be prepared, then this workshop is for you

No matter what type of carrier you use, there are a number of methods to move them safely onto your back.

This workshop looks at a few of these, and allows you to practise with our weighted demo dolls alongside your carrier (or ours) so you can feel confident before trying it out with your child.

You don’t need to bring your carrier along, we always have some available, but it helps if you are using a carrier you feel comfortable with, and intend to use in the future.

If you don’t see anything suitable above, then ask us to run an workshop on another of our workshop days. If we have enough requests we will get it in the schedule!
